Custom Room Defining Screens

Creating a sense of place in The Edgemoor neighborhood
dining room with walnut accents

About The Project

Our client in the Bellingham neighborhood of Edgemoor had a modern, open-concept living space with amazing Bellingham Bay views. The kitchen, living room, dining room, and music room were essentially one large room without any defining spacial characteristics the homeowners were looking for. As the home has stunning water views, the design staff wanted the space to remain as open and see thru as possible, while still breaking up and defining particular areas.

What We Liked About The Boutique Build

These screens were a lot of fun to create. We worked with our in-house designer to design and create custom room defining screens throughout the home. We used a nice walnut wood to help compliment the existing modern feel. Screens like these can often twist or warp over time – to prevent this from happening, we used tongue and groove connections where the vertical members (stiles) meet the horizontal members at top and bottom (rails) as well as the round steel rods that run thru the stiles. Once installed, they really helped define the spaces within the open floor plan. This detail was such a success, that it prompted several other unique details on subsequently built homes in the area. This simple detail made a huge difference in this home, an elegant solution for sure.
